Application
The hand tool known as pliers, which is used to securely grasp items, may have evolved from the tongs used in Bronze Age Europe to handle molten metal. They can be used to physically compress and bend a variety of materials. The basic structure of pliers is a pair of metal first-class leaves linked at a fulcrum that is closer to one end of the levers, resulting in short jaws on one side and longer handles on the other. This configuration gives a mechanical advantage that enables the grip strength to be magnified and precisely focused on an object. Objects that are too small or awkward to handle with the fingers can also be moved using the jaws.
